SLOCOG is part of the statewide Census Affiliate Data Center network whose goal is to assist in the dissemination and analysis of census data. A variety of SLOCOG publications and census data provide information of interest to the SLOCOG board for decision making. Census data is also used by local jurisdictions and agencies in their long range planning activities. Local businesses use census data to assess the demographic aspects of potential markets and non-profits use the information to understand their service population.
Census 2010
The 2010 Census is fast approaching. SLOCOG will be housing information about the Census and providing updates on our Census Webpage.
Regional Profile
2004 Regional Profile The Regional Profile is a resource document focused primarily on transportation planning. Regional socio-economic characteristics are important indicators of existing and projected demand on transportation systems including state highways, local roads, and transit systems. The Profile also aids information dissemination both within the San Luis Obispo Region, and to interested parties outside the Region. In this respect, it is intended to be a data source of regional information.

Community Profiles
SLOCOG has developed community profiles from both the 1990 Census and 2000 Census in a simple to read format addressing the following demographic categories: Population and Age Characteristics, Income and Poverty Status, Housing, and Transportaiton. The same format is used in 2000 as in 1990, making comparisons over the ten year period easier to evaluate. SLOCOG will be improving this section of the website but in the mean time community profile information can be found by clicking this link.

Regional Housing Needs
The Regional Housing Needs Plan (RHNP) prepared by San Luis Obispo Council of Governments (SLOCOG) establishes numerical targets for the development of housing units in the state-mandated Housing Element update that each of the seven incorporated cities and the County of San Luis Obispo are to accomplish during their Housing Element Updates in 2003. HCD has established a regional housing needs allocation of 18,035 for the SLOCOG region. The law requires that SLOCOG address housing needs in the county through the RHNP which is designed to meet guidelines set forth by the California State Department of Housing and Community Development (HCD) in compliance with State housing law (Government Code Sections 65583 and 65584). A new round of planning for new housing will begin in 2008. The 2003 RHNP covers the period between 2001 and 2007 and can be downloaded here.
