In 2005 the first round of community workshops were held around the region. These meetings used various interactive technology including polling and on-the-fly traffic modeling to provoke public reaction to potential development patterns. From these meetings, we measured preferences about projected long-term growth.
Results of the workshops showed string preferences for planing compact development within or adjacent to existing urban areas and to avoid developing agricultural lands, scenic areas along highways, and between communities. Continued work toward these goals was strongly encouraged to obtain local government commitments.
Since then, we have been working to build this capacity for greater analysis of resources and development constraints. Our analysis now includes a host of real-world constraints to development such as public lands, wetlands, agricultural lands, and other resource areas.
