Community 2050 is utilizing a urban growth modeling tools that were developed to improve the capacity for
greater analysis of resources and development constraints in planning.
With the models, a range of environmental resources can be considered alongside
other constraints such as infrastructure capacities to predict what the future
may look like. We can find out where development would be
helpful and where it would be harmful to the public interest.
In order to model growth for the San Luis Obispo Region, we rely upon local data and input. Using each of the local
general plans as the foundation, the models also incorporate resource
information such as the location of important farmland, economic information such as the location of employment, and social information such as the mix of housing types to match a range of income levels.
Once complete, the model will reveal to all of us -
community members, government officials, and other stakeholders - how some of
our natural resource, financial, and other finite resources will be impacted.
